WHAT IS BEST FRIENDS ANGELS?

Best Friend’s Angels was established in 1999 as a pet sitting
service, providing pet care in the client’s home.  My name is Jo
Caddell: I am the owner of Best Friend’s Angels and your pet
care provider.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Q. How Do I Contact You For Service?

A.  You can call me on my cell, 515-778-PETS (7387) or at the office,
515- 270-2601. My e-mail address is bestfriends@mchsi.com. I can also
be reached via fax: that number is 515-270-4604. If I am busy serving
another client, I will return your call promptly.

An initial interview will be scheduled prior to the onset of pet sitting
services. This meeting will give your pets—and you—an opportunity to
meet me and to discuss your pets’ individual needs and your
expectations for care.

Q. What are the advantages of hiring a pet sitter for my pet?

A.  If you are a pet owner who has a successful relationship with a
boarding kennel, you may not have any need for a pet sitter in your
home.  Also, if your pet has a history of destructive behavior in the
home because of separation anxiety, boarding your pet may be the
best solution for you.  But if your pet does not respond favorably to
boarding, a pet sitter is a wonderful alternative for you and your pet.

Q. What should I look for in hiring a pet sitter?

A.  A pet sitter should insist upon a meeting with the client and pet or
pets before visits begin, to explain services and to gather information
about the needs of the pet and the expectations of the owner.  A pet
sitter should be bonded and insured.  A pet sitter should be able to
provide as many references as you request from existing clients.  If
more than one person from the pet sitting business will be entering
your home and caring for your pet, you have a right to ask to meet
anyone who will be providing service to you.

A pet sitter should interact well with your pets during the initial
meeting and should provide you with a feeling of confidence that you
can entrust the pet sitter with the keys to your home and the well-
being of your pets.  A pet sitter should have a number of questions to
ask of you to ensure that the needs of the pet and the expectations of
the owner are well understood before visits begin.  Many professional
pet sitters belong to Pet Sitters International and/or The National
Association of Professional Pet Sitters.  Both organizations provide
helpful information to pet sitters on how to improve services to
clients, how to deal with emergencies, and a variety of other pet
sitting topics.

Q. How do I prepare my home for a pet sitter?

A.  Putting your instructions in writing is the best way to ensure that
both you and the pet sitter have a mutual understanding of the pets’
needs.  The pet sitter may have a form for you to complete to provide
this information, in addition to the initial meeting.  Have plenty of extra
food, treats if appropriate, special foods and medications if needed.
Have fresh litter for the litter boxes, plastic sacks for dog and cat
excrement to be removed to the garbage, emergency phone numbers
where you can be reached, the name and phone number of your
veterinarian, and any special instructions for the pet sitter.  Make
certain that the key you provide to the pet sitter works properly.  If
you are providing access to the home through an electric garage door
or a garage door keypad, the pet sitter will normally still require a
house key in case of electrical outage.  If you have a security alarm
system, be certain to notify the security company of the pet sitter’s
access to your home, in case the alarm is inadvertently activated.

Q. What can I do to help the pet sitter take better care of my pet?

A.  You should be very clear on when, where, what, how pet sitting
services will be provided to meet your pets’ needs.  If your visit dates
change, a trip is extended or canceled, notify the pet sitter
immediately.  Call the pet sitter when you arrive safely from your trip
so the pet sitter will know that your pet will not need additional,
unexpected services the next day because of a flight delay or other
unplanned event delaying your return.

Q.  Are there specific parts of the Des Moines area in which you
provide services?

A.  I pet sit for clients (the pets) in Johnston, Urbandale, Clive, West
Des Moines, Windsor Heights, Beaverdale, and the western area of
Des Moines.
